The Campaign to End Skimpy Boards in Our Generation

MORE MEAT,
LESS BOARD.

More Meat. Less Board. More Yiddishkeit.
The Crisis

The Crisis Nobody
Is Talking About.

One of the greatest crises facing Klal Yisroel today — and the #1 reason our children go off the derech — is the skimpy meat board. The lid comes off the fleishig board and there it is: three lonely slices of pastrami on a slab the size of a cutting block. 11% covered. A churban.

The Numbers Don't Lie.

Ask any mechanech. Ask any askan. Off the record, they'll tell you the same thing: skimpy meat boards are the #1 driver of kids going OTD in our generation. Not phones. Not the street. The ratio of board-to-meat.

The Torah Case for More Meat

Some have asked whether this is truly a matter of halacha. The teshuvos speak for themselves.

  • Avoda Zara: Wood (i.e., exposed board surface)
  • Gilui Arayos: Flesh (i.e., what should be covering the wood)
  • Shefichas Damim: Hemoglobin (i.e., the ideal board has some)

The Beis HaMikdash was destroyed for these three reasons. A meat board that is 89% wood is, b'derech remez, not helping. The second churban was for sinas chinam — hence the entire culture of gifting boards and being mechabed one another, so nobody should feel left out.

This d'var Torah was reviewed by no one and should not be taken as psak halacha. It is, however, accurate.

"No Yiddishe kind should ever look down at a board and see more wood than flesh."
— Claude's words, not mine
"In reality, a full meat board is a real tikkun for the churban beis hamikdash. The symbolism writes itself."

Frequently Asked Questions
Is MoreMeatLessBoard a real 501(c)(3)?
We are a movement. The paperwork is with our accountant. He is very reliable. He built his own board last Shabbos and his wife hasn't stopped calling us to say thank you.
What cuts of meat are halachically preferred for a proper board?
Brisket (flat or point), rib steak, pastrami, flanken, and tongue are all acceptable. Chicken is a personal choice that we do not endorse. A board with chicken is not a meat board. It is a poultry situation.
How do I find my nearest MoreMeatLessBoard location?
Call 1-855-MO-MEAT and a trained volunteer will walk you through every cut. Our volunteers are certified in board construction, meat coverage ratios, and emotional support for families recovering from previous boards.
What if my wife says the board is fine?
With all due respect, she has not seen the data.
Can I make a board for a neighbor as a way of being mechabed them?
This is the highest form of avodas Hashem currently available in galus. The second Beis HaMikdash was destroyed for sinas chinam. A gifted board is the opposite. Do the math.
Is there a recommended wood-to-meat ratio?
The poskim are still deliberating. Our working recommendation is that if you can see wood, you have not finished. The Chazon Ish never saw wood.

About MoreMeatLessBoard

MoreMeatLessBoard is a registered 501(c)(3). We are not a vendor. We are not a caterer. We are a movement — established al pi the principle that no Yiddishe kind should ever look down at a board and see more wood than fleish.

Every dollar goes directly toward closing the gap between what a board costs and what a board should be. Our trained volunteers are stationed across the tri-state area and select communities in Eretz Yisroel, standing by to walk any family through the process of building a board that reflects their true values.

The board you build this week could be the board that keeps a child at the table for life. Good Shabbos.
